Knowledge Infrastructure Program

In total, the governments of Canada and Ontario are investing $1.5 billion in 49 projects at Ontario’s colleges and universities, through the Knowledge Infrastructure Program (KIP) and the Ontario 2009 Budget.

The Knowledge Infrastructure Program, a two-year, $2 billion economic stimulus measure to support infrastructure enhancement at Canadian post-secondary institutions is part of the $12 billion in new infrastructure investment allocated under Canada’s Economic Action Plan.

The University of Toronto is the recipient of $151 million from the federal and provincial governments through the Knowledge Infrastructure Program and the Ontario budget. The investment will fund significant capital projects on all three campuses that will help educate Canadians in cutting edge sciences and technologies, serve as poles for economic innovation across the GTA and create up to 1,600 new construction jobs.

The Centre for Innovation in the Canadian Mining IndustryThe University of Toronto's Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering will develop never-before used space in the attic of the Mining Building into a creative convergence suite.
UTM Instructional and Laboratory ProjectThe project will result in a new 13,000-square-metre Instructional Centre and two fully renovated science teaching laboratories.
UTSC Instructional and Laboratory CentreThe 15,000-square-metre, $78-million building will accommodate the campus’ high-growth and in-demand programs, from Bachelor of Business Administration to Master of Environmental Science.
